Vineyard visits

Le domaine du Quay (cuvée Saint Marcel)

 

50 meters away from the guest house, you can discover the vineyard and cellars for Domaine du Quay. Marc and Olivier will go out of their way to share their passion and make you discover their wine. Your visit will end with a private tasting of their wines.

This visit can be organised upon request.


Le château de Ventenac en Minervois

 

Beneath the fascinating red brick vaults of the Canal du Midi, let yourself be taken on an initiation journey to the land of the flavors of the Minervois terroir.

During this trip you can discover the winemaking tools of yesteryear and visit the iconic barge “Marie-Thérèse”.

Your day will end with a private tasting in the cellar. Open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The village of Ventenac is only a few minutes away from the guesthouse. Wines are also available at the guesthouse.

Le Somail

Le canal du midi :

Dug byPierre-Paul Riquet in the 17th century to join the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea, the Canal du Midi (also known as the Canal du Languedoc or Canal of two seas) goes through the Minervois territory. It was completed in 1682.

The port of Le Somail was then built as an overnight stay. This protected site is now listed as a World Heritage Site.

Various buildings date back to the canal’s construction: the chapel, the stone bridge, the inn building, the warehouses and the cooler.

Balades en vélo

Thanks to the proximity of the Canal du midi and the Canal de la Robine, you can enjoy bike rides according to your heart’s desires. There are 377 km of marked cycle routes from Toulouse to Sète available. Your bikes are welcome at the guest house (locked garage to store them safely overnight.

The Salt of Gruissan

With the massif de la Clape in the background, surrounded by the sea and the Ayrolle pond,the Salin of Saint Martin Island stretches over 400 hectares in the heart of the Narbonnaise Regional Natural Park. It can be found on the edge of the village of Gruissan.

In Gruissan, since ancient times, people have been able to master and tame the Mediterranean Sea to harvest its produce. You will discover an ancestral know-how in a preciously preserved environment.

An hour and 20 minutes’ walk through the salty tables will allow you to discover the amazing alchemy of the sun and wind combining their efforts to produce salt.

Come on abord La Barque du Somail for a gentle cruise on the Canal du Midi. Enjoy a romantic setting, unspoiled for hundreds of years, ideal for relaxing, sharing a picnic and perhaps watching the sunset.

The Abbey of Fontfroide

15 minutes from the guest house, you can  visit the Abbey of Fontfroide. A guided tour of the  abbey will take you through the main courtyard, the dining hall, the court Louis XIV, the cloister, the church, the chapter house, the dormitory as well as the cellar. Inside these walls you will find the largest rose garden of the South of France as well as a garden of scents. Outside the abbey walls you can enjoy the garden of the Virgin, with its olive trees, cypresses and rare iris.

Every July, the abbey hosts a music and history festival.

The African reserve of Sigean

Open all year long and situated 30 minutes from the guest house, the African reserve of Sigean offers you a safari adventure both in your car and walking amongst 300 hectares and 3800 animals.
